8 Non-resident taxpayer 30% A person is considered non-resident if they do not reside in Bangladesh for at least 182 days in a tax year. The key definition and implications are set by the Income Tax Act-2023, Section-56.

Exempted Amount:

Exempted Amount (Lower of 1/3rd of Income From Employment or Tk. 500,000)


Tax Free Income:

    v  For females, Senior citizens above 65, up to BDT 4,00,000 would be "nil" and the above table would be applied for the subsequent income.

    v  For the Third gender, physically challenged persons, up to BDT 4,75,000 would be "nil" and the above table would be applied for the subsequent income.

    v  For War-wounded gazette freedom fighters and gazette "July Warriors 2024”, up to BDT 500,000 would be "nil", and the above table would be applied for the subsequent income.

    v The income tax-free threshold would be increased for parents or legal guardians of each physically challenged child/adopted child by BDT 50,000. If both the parents of a physically challenged child are taxpayers, either of the parents will be entitled to avail of the facility.


Minimum Tax:

      a). Dhaka & Chattogram City Corporation – 5,000/-

      b). Other City Corporation – 4,000/-

      c). Other than City Corporation area – 3,000/-


Tax Rebate for investment :[Section 44(2)/only allowable for Resident/Nonresident Bangladeshi]

      a). Rate of Rebate:

           Amount of allowable investment is - actual investment or 30% of total (taxable) income or Tk. 1,50,00,000/- whichever is less. Tax rebate amounts to 15% of allowable investment.

      b).Types of investment qualified for the tax rebate are:

      v Life insurance premium up to 10% of the face value.

      v Contribution to Provident Fund to which Provident Fund Act, 1925 applies.

      v Self contribution and employer's contribution to Recognized Provident Fund.

           v Contribution to Superannuation Fund.

           v Contribution up to TK 60,000 to deposit pension scheme sponsored by any scheduled bank or a financial institution.

     v Investment in approved debenture or debenture stock, Stocks or Shares.

     v Contribution to Benevolent Fund and Group Insurance premium. 

     v Contribution to Zakat Fund.

     v Donation to charitable hospital approved by National Board of Revenue.

     v Donation to philanthropic or educational institution approved by the Government.

     v Donation to socio-economic or cultural development institution established in Bangladesh by Aga Khan Development Network.

     v Donation to ICDDRB.

     v Donation to philanthropic institution-CRP, Savar, Dhaka.

     v Donation up to tk. 5 lac to (1) Shishu Swasthya Foundation Hospital, Mirpur, Shishu Hospital, Jessore and Hospital for Sick Children, Sathkhira run by Shishu Swasthya Foundation, Dhaka. (2) Diganta Memorial Cancer Hospital, Dhaka. (3) The ENT and Head-Neck Cancer Foundation of Bangladesh, Dhaka and (4) Jatiya Protibandhi Unnayan Foundation, Mirpur, Dhaka.

     v Donation to Dhaka Ahsania Mission Cancer Hospital.

     v Donation to Sylhet Diabetic Samity, Islamia Eye Hospital and MA Ispahani Institute of Opthalmology, Kidney Foundation and National Heart Foundation of Bangladesh.

     v Donation to Asiatic Society of Bangladesh.

     v Donation to Muktijodha Jadughar.

     v Donation to National level institution set up in memory of liberation war.

     v Donation to National level institution set up in memory of Father of the Nation.

     v Any investment by an individual in savings certificate and Bangladesh Government Treasury Bond.

     v Investment in purchase of one computer or one laptop by an individual assessee.


Personal deductions

Deductions on basis of specified allowable investments

A tax rebate on investments is applicable for a resident and non-resident Bangladeshi, which is the lower of the following:


     v  3% of taxable income, excluding exempt income, income taxable at reduced rates, and profit-share receipts from partnerships and associations of persons, as well as final tax,

     v 15% of permitted investments and expenditure, or BDT 1 million.


Charitable contributions

      v Donation to a charitable hospital established outside the city corporation area within one year prior to such donation and approved by the National Board of Revenue (Board) is deductible.

      v Donation to an organization established for the welfare of persons with disabilities is deductible if such organization has been established one year prior to the payment and approved by the Department of Social Welfare and by the Board.

      v Amount paid to Zakat as Zakat Fund or as donation to any charitable fund established by or under the Zakat Fund Management Act, 2023 is deductible.
